Magic has traditionally held a small role in history, being almost common in pre dark age time. During the Dark Ages, Wizards and other magic users were persecuted for Witch Craft. Magic was all but forgotten in the mean time until around 2412 where it overtly stopped a full scale war in the eye of the public. Magic is still ridiculed by scientists, as "magic can not possibly exist as energy can never be spontaneously created" though a few scientists of varying repute have begun legitimately examining magic than proclaim that it's users are either con artists or charlatans.
Divine Magics, If the Arcane Arts are ridiculed Divine Magic is all but persecuted against by both scientists and the "traditional" religious community. Throughout history there have been miracle workers but in the past they were more often than not branded as heretics, or later charlatans. The two communities stand quite firm in their stance against Divine users. None of Earth's old religions seem to grant a worshiper power. The Gods found in ancient extra terrestrial ruins which have been translated are the gods which seem to grant power. This has steadily resulted in all but destroying the traditional Earth religions, especially along the Frontier where most of the magic is being used.
Psionics on the other hand has been readily accepted, as most of the time are a result of either genetic or cybernetic enhancement.
