Mana Points, are the excess energy of Magik which permeates the world of Lakaria. Magic comes from the sun in this system, as Lakaria is the closest to the sun (that is habitable) it receives the most magic of the worlds in the system.Certain powerful individuals (pcs) can harness this power, in it's most raw and untapped form occasionally which enables to do things that often times fly in the face of reality.
These individuals, can not do this very often though, as it taxes even their powerful forms like the excess use of magic often does. Often times one will glow with distinctive colors and patterns of light around them as they channel this great power in such a manner it is almost as fantastic to watch, as the action that they put this power to use for.
You gain mana points depending on how much power your character can harness and contain within his or her self. You can not "save" Mana Points from level to level. They do not accumulate, as after a certain amount of Mana build up it simply bleeds away. You gain Mana Points at each level. Which you may use over the course of that level.
At Heroic Tier you gain two Mana Points per level. At Paragon Tier you gain four Mana Points per level. At Epic Tier you gain Six Mana Points per level.

Mana Points can be used for a staggeringly wide variety of things however there are some conventional uses of them to be used as a spring board.
Note you can only use one half of your Mana points per day.
Uses of Mana Points include.
Spending a Mana Point, to recover the use of a spent Daily power.
Spending a Mana Point to grant you and your allies Combat advantage until the end of the encounter.
Spending a Mana Point to do an extra two dice damage. (Ie +2W for weapon powers, +2d6 on d6 powers etc etc)
Spending a Mana point to Heal someone for their Bloodied Value with use of a Healing word or Healing Ability instead of just a surge.
Spending a Mana Point to remove all Taint Points after a Healing Spell or ability is used.
Spending a Mana Point to go first in Initiative.
Spending a Mana Point to bust through a wall with a Daily power.
Spending a Mana Point, to ensure friends are not caught in a blast or burst power.
Spending a Mana Point, to make the enemy roll a One on their next roll.
Spending a Mana Point to make a saving throw.
There are several other uses of Mana Points that you can do. Tell your Dm what you plan to do, see if he or she will allow it and Spend a Mana Point to do so.
